The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a 28-year old student of the University of Ibadan, Orowo (surname withheld), for allegedly defrauding an Australian, Mrs. Jette Jacob, of $90,000
Uwujaren the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity also said the Aussie was found dead five days after Orowo visited her in Johannesburg, South Africa. He said Orowo, on a dating site, started a relationship with Jacob, which made him to visit her in South Africa last year. He said the Nigerian lover arrived Johannesburg on February 4, 2013 and lived with her in the city. Uwujaren said the lady, who had been in Johannesburg since November 2012, was found dead in her apartment five days after Orowo’s arrival. The EFCC spokesman said that some of the valuables in the residence of the deceased were found to be missing while Orowo allegedly fled South Africa to Nigeria. He said the South African Police investigating the case suspected foul play in Jacob’s death. He added that the EFCC was brought into the matter following a petition from Richard Stanford of the Australian Federal Police. It was alleged in the petition that the Nigerian defrauded the deceased the sum of $90,000.
